HAMILTON – Charles E. “Charlie” Park, 78, of Hamilton passed away Monday, November 28, 2016 at the Marcus Daly Hospice Center.  He had been fighting bone cancer for 5 years.  Charlie continued to play golf 5 or 6 days a week until the summer of 2015.  This past year he fell and broke a hip, had 2 heart attacks, prostate surgery and had 3 stints put in his heart.  Along with everything else, Charlie continued with his chemotherapy treatments every Wednesday for 5 years.  Many people have been amazed at what a tough guy he has been.  What kept him going was golf, his dogs and his family.

Charlie was born August 13, 1938 in Des Moines, IA the son of Ray and Alice Park.  He graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines and then attended the University of Northern Iowa for 2 years.  Charlie then enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1958 and served until his honorable discharge in 1960.  Upon returning home from the military he went to Simpson College in Indianola, IA.  This is where he met Patricia Patterson and they were married on June 2, 1962.  In 1964 and 1966, Charlie and Patti welcomed their 2 sons, Timothy and Christopher.

In the summer of 1962, Charlie joined the Des Moines Police Department.  He was there until the summer of 1968 when he was hired by the Las Vegas Police Department.  In 1996, Charlie retired and he and Patti moved to Victor and they remained there for almost 20 years.  In the fall of 2014 they moved to a smaller home in Hamilton.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Bill Park, in the early 1990’s.  He is survived by his wife Patti of Hamilton; 2 sons, Timothy Park and wife Dawn of Stevensville and Christopher Park of Las Vegas; 3 grandchildren, Morgan Loya and husband Shaun, Dusty Park and Shellbie Park; 3 great-grandchildren, Gideon and Milianna Loya and Bayonnie Park.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the Daly-Leach Chapel with burial and Military Honors to follow at Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton.  There will be a reception following the committal services in the funeral home’s community room.
