CORVALLIS - Henry “Hank” Marquez Suarez died peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 6 at the age of 83 after a battle with cancer.  Hank was born March 4, 1933 to Primo and Eulalia Suarez and resided in Corvallis his entire life. He graduated from Corvallis High in 1954 and served two years in the Army from 1955-1957 in Texas.

Hank married Margaret Chavez in 1962 and they raised five daughters.

Hank was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Jesse, Sandy and Gabe.  He is survived by his sister Jo (Bruce) Smith of Glendive, daughter Patti (Jack) Pape of Corvallis, Lori (Steve) Pape of Corvallis, Terry (Ryan) LeGros of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Connie (Tim) Hickey of Corvallis, and Pam Suarez of Corvallis. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren Will, Isabella and Alicia Pape, Ross and Presley Pape, Julia, Maria, Tim Jr. and Finn Hickey all of Corvallis.

His grandkids loved “Grandpa” and he had nicknames for all of them. They enjoyed visiting him at his house, listening to his stories, going to the farmers’ market and when he came to watch them at sporting events. Grandpa’s house was the place to be for family gatherings, especially Christmas Eve.

Hank worked for the Ravalli County Road Department for 20 years and retired in 1994 and prior to that he worked in agriculture and the in the saw mills. Hank started working in the sugar beet fields as a boy and was instilled with a tremendous work ethic and always liked to stay active and busy. For many years he maintained a large garden and grew and sold vegetables, and thereafter he always kept a wonderful garden at home from which he provided his kids and grandkids with delicious vegetables and beautiful flowers.

Hank liked to have a good time at the CT and enjoyed having a beer or drinking coffee and playing Cribbage. He was also a member of the Eagles Club for 44 years. Hank loved music, especially Elvis, whom he honored at home with many photos and collectibles.

Hank had many close friends, some whom he remained friends with since boyhood. The family would like to thank all his friends and all our extended family that were very special to Hank for all your love and support.

The family will hold a gathering to remember Hank at Daly-Leach Chapel Community Room on Saturday, December 10 from 3pm-5pm.
