Lyle Z. Brown, 94, of Darby passed away peacefully at the home of his Son and Daughter-In-Law, Brad and Sherrie Brown on Sunday March 19, 2017. Thanks to Brad and Sherrie and care giver Wade Upham for making it possible for Lyle to remain at home in his declining years.

Lyle was born January 8, 1923 in Hamilton, Mt, the son of William (Billy) Brown and Geneva (Henderson) Brown.

He was raised in Darby, Mt and graduated from Darby High School in 1941. Shortly after high school Lyle went to work in Athol, Idaho where he helped build the Farragut Navy Training Station which was used in World War II to train the Navy in preparation of an invasion. In 1942, Lyle joined the US Marines and served during World War II from 1942 to 1945. After discharge from the Marines in 1945; Lyle married the love of his life Lois (Fifield) Brown. Lyle worked for a short time with the US Forrest Service and then went to work at Flightner Sawmill, working in the planer until it closed down.  He then finished his remaining working years at the Bitterroot Stock Farm until his retirement.

Lyle had many hobbies and interests which he pursued over the years. His love of woodworking is well known by all that loved him, as he made many items for all of us. He loved his garden and was always happy to show it off, give advice and generously shared its bounty. In his younger years Lyle loved to hike and hunt. He hiked most of the mountains in the South Bitterroot Valley. He also loved to camp and 4-wheel with his children and grandchildren creating many happy memories for all.  

Lyle was preceded in death by, his loving wife, Lois; his parents, Billy and Geneva Brown; sister Sal Ruark; son, Lon Z. Brown, and adopted son, Rod Brown.

Lyle is survived by sons, Victor (Beth) Brown Darby, MT., Brad (Sherrie) Brown Darby, Mt, and Trenny Brown, Livingston, Mt; daughter in-law, Vicki Brown and good friend and caregiver Wade Upham; brother, Don Brown (Peg); Lyle is also survived by 14 Grandchildren and 34 Great Grandchildren.

A potluck Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the Darby Community Clubhouse from 1-4 PM with Calvin Ruark giving the Eulogy.

Private family interment will take place the morning of April 15, 2017 in Lone Pine Cemetery, Darby, Mt.

The family suggests that memorial be made to the Marcus Daly Hospice Endowment Fund, 1200 Westwood Drive, Hamilton, MT 59829.
