Dick was born and raised on a farm in Northern Iowa.  His father and he grew corn and soy beans, raised chickens, beef and hogs.  His grandmother was baking cookies in an old fashioned wood burning stove while the house Dick grew up in was being moved to it’s present location.  Richard as he was also called was born in that house on May 5th of 1930 to Mr. and Mrs. Harold and Mildred Hofler.  He was schooled in Rudd, Iowa a 3 mile distance from home.  He had one sister.

Richard always loved scouting and rose to the rank of Eagle Scout with multiple badges conferred on him for his exemplary work with the Boy Scouts.

In the Bitterroot Valley he built sun rooms, a constructed radio tower and ran the Hofler House, a care home for the elderly, for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Pati; children, Tim, Greg, Jeanette, Holly, Jim, Heidi, John, Heather, Hailey, Bill, Tom and Ben, 20 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
