Robert Lee Chaffin

Robert (Bob) Lee Chaffin, 75, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side December 3, 2017.

He was born July 30, 1942 in Hamilton, Montana to Sam and June Chaffin.  They lived in Stevensville for a little while, moving to Victor and then settling in the Corvallis area. Along with his siblings Bonnie, Chuck and Dick, his parents lived on Grandpa John’s ranch and then bought a ranch of their own on Chaffin road.  He helped on the ranch along with his brothers, Chuck and Dick raising beef and sugar beets.  Graduating from Corvallis High school in 1961, he joined the Air Force, completing his basic training in Lackland, Texas.  He went to Alaska and served four years. He was honorably discharged and moved back to the Bitterroot valley. He married Belle (Dolly) Drogitis November 2, 1966 at the Hamilton Wesleyan Church.  They raised their children Susan, Shawn and Ricky in Florence. 

Bob started working for the University of Montana in the computer department.  He worked there until 1987.  He was well liked by his colleagues and always willing to go the extra mile to help people.  After taking early retirement, he began a new career in Real Estate at Fidelity Real Estate working for Jack Weidenfeller and then for Keller-Williams.

Bob was preceded by his parents John (Sam) and June Chaffin.  He is survived by his wife Dolly, children Susan Riker (Ken), Shawn Chaffin, and Ricky Chaffin(Corrie); grandchildren Andrew Riker, Neil Riker, Molly Riker, Katerina Chaffin and Zoe Chaffin; brothers Dick Chaffin (Linda) and Chuck Chaffin (Diane) and sister Bonnie Godbout. 

Viewing will be held Sunday afternoon 3:00 to 5:00pm at the Daly-Leach Memorial Chapel, 1010 Main St. Hamilton MT.

Funeral services will be held Monday December 11 at 10:00am at Mountain View Wesleyan Church 184 Golf Course Rd. in Hamilton.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. We will miss you and love you forever.

We want thank Dr. Michael Snyder, Dr. Selbach, and all the nurses in the oncology department at St. Pats Hospital for all the love and care you have shown Dad in the past nine years.
