Elmer Wall Obituary

CORVALLIS - Elmer Wall was born in May of 1933, the son of Roy G and Lucy Wall.  He passed away at Marcus Daly Hospital in Hamilton on Monday, April 2, 2018.

Elmer lived his entire life in the Bitterroot Valley. He was raised on the family farm east of Hamilton.  He was part of a large family being the oldest of seven brothers and four sisters. Running the farm required that everyone help out which resulted in a strong work ethic for Elmer and his siblings.

Elmer was educated in the Hamilton School System after which he entered the timber industry as a truck driver for Art Koch Trucking; under contract to the Anaconda Company. After The Anaconda Company sold to Champion International he continued to drive truck until that company closed its doors. Elmer then went to work for Donaldson Brothers in Hamilton until his retirement.

In 1957, he married Audrey Roberts. They had one daughter Cindi Lu.  Elmer and Audrey purchased a farm in Corvallis then proceeded to become involved in the dairy business. Audrey took care of the farm while Elmer worked fulltime in the timber industry as a truck driver. They were divorced in 1989.  Elmer continued to run the farm which was his pride and joy.  Over the years his health declined but it did not stop him from trying to operate his farm.  He spent a lot of time with his dogs, Ubie and Spike and he loved to hunt for elk.  Elmer had many stories of his hunting adventures and it was fun listening to him retell the stories a little different each time he told them.  Elmer also loved to debate politics.  He would gleefully debate anyone who was willing to take him on.

Elmer is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cindi Lu and Brent Hurst of Plentywood; his granddaughters, Alyssa and Elizabeth Hurst; brothers, Delbert (Janet) Wall of Corvallis, Edward (Trudy) Wall of Thompson Falls, Dee (Carol) Wall of Florence, Ronald Wall of Old Town, ID, and Randolph Wall of Missoula; sisters, Marian Thurman of Kodiak AK, Dena Pamin of Clinton and Virginia Mathews of Newark, OH.  He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Lucy Wall; brothers, Robert Allen and Roy Lavern (Vern); sisters, Vesta Jean Cook and Shirley Jane Houldson.

The family would like to thank the caregivers and numerous friends that helped with his care in recent years. Special thanks to the folks at the Aaron Care Home, who gave him a sense of home during his time there.
