George Tompkins Obituary

HAMILTON – George Leon Tompkins, 83, of Hamilton passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2019. He was born September 1, 1936 in Fort Dodge, IA the son of Theodore and Marvel Tompkins.

George served in Korea with the U.S. Army. He then earned his Bachelor’s degree in Forestry from Iowa State University. George began his 32 year career with the U.S. Forest Service in the West Fork in the 1950’s. He then went to Sula, the Yaak, Eureka and St. Maries, ID before retiring out of the Darby District.

George was a member of the Lions Club, the Elks and the Hamilton Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Marvel Tompkins. George is survived by his daughter, Wendie Tompkins of Post Falls, ID; 2 sons, Damon Tompkins and wife Teresa of Billings and Shan Tompkins and wife Dana of Conner; grandchildren, Jesse and Jayden Tompkins of Corvallis, Meagan, Taylor, Joshua (Amanda) Tompkins all of Billings, Jacob Tompkins in the U.S. Marine Corps and Damon Tompkins, Jr of Billings, Lynzzie Tompkins-Rassmusen (Dean) of Great Falls and Zachary Tompkins of Las Vegas; great-grandchildren, Zoey and Alison Tucker of Billings and Lane Rassmusen of Great Falls.
