Joanne Margaret Rolewicz Martin

June 9, 1945-January 15, 2019

Joanne Margaret Rolewicz Martin, wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at the age of 73.

Joanne was born on June 9, 1945 to Joseph and Lida Mae Rolewicz in Oneida, New York. Joanne was one of eight siblings. As a young child, Joanne could be found ice skating, playing the accordion (as every good Polish girl should) and writing poems.  As a young adult, Joanne raced stock cars in the Powder Puff Drag League. It was said that she only participated because someone told her she could not and if you knew Joanne, she was always up for a challenge.

Joanne moved to Fredericksburg, Virginia where she met and married Conway “Woody” Burnette in July of 1966 and became mom to Wendy Marie and Lisa Kay.  Joining the all-girls brood two years later was Virginia Darlene followed by Cote’ Jo.  Woody and Joanne later divorced in 1979.

In 1981, a handsome man named Landon “Mike” Martin took Joanne on a date to La Petite Auberge and told her he was going to marry her.  Not wanting to be told what to do of course, Joanne replied, “Don’t count on it.”  They married two years later on August 6, 1983.

Joanne worked at Fredericksburg Saving and Loan for over 25 years when she decided to “retire”.  Never one to sit still she opened Beau Hill Accounting and Bookkeeping Services which she operated until 2016 when she and Mike moved to Hamilton, Montana.

Joanne was known for her strong work ethic, quick wit, love of animals and some awesome dance moves.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; Joseph Leo Rolewicz, Lida Mae Cota’ Rolewicz; Step-mother Teresa Spinelli Rolewicz. Brothers; Raymond Rolewicz and Salem Rolewicz. Sisters, Eileen Rolewicz, Elaine Rolewicz Carello. Sister in law Jacki Rolewicz. Niece Linda Tornatore Cheatam. Best friend and mother in law Barbara Batterson Martin.

Joanne is survived by her Aunt Lucy Pawlikowski who is 102, sisters, Evelyn (George) Schremp, Gloria Rolewicz and Michele (Steve) Farris.  Brother in law Dick Carello.  Daughters, Wendy (John) Dickinson, of Richmond, VA, Lisa Burnette (Bob Layton) of Salt Lake City, Virginia (Lou) Villemez, Missoula, MT, Cote’ Jo Stawson, Norfolk, VA.  Grandchildren Melanie D’Isidoro, Jacob D’Isidoro, Benjamin D’Isidoro, Hillary Dickinson, Anne Marie Dickinson and Justin Michael Stawson. 33 Great nieces and nephews and 14 Great great nieces and nephews.

Joanne leaves behind her husband of 35 ½ years Landon Michael Martin and her beloved dog T-bird.

It was Joanne’s request that no services be held but she wished for her ashes to be spread in the Chesapeake Bay where she, Michael and T-Bird spent as much time as they could “Glamping”.

Memorials can be sent to the Bitter Root Humane Association, P.O. Box 57, Hamilton. MT  59840 or a charity of your choice.

Private services will be held at a later date.  The family would like to thank the staff at Valley View Estates Health and Rehabilitation for the amazing care she received during her rehab from her fall. Joanne said she had met so many wonderful people that she was able to call friends.

                    We love you more!
