CORVALLIS - Michael Louis Jorgensen, 79, of Corvallis passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at his home.
He was born and raised in Salinas, California, the son of Louis and Emma Jorgensen. As a youngster his life was centered around sports, livestock and working with agriculture at various local produce companies.
Mike graduated in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science degree in crop science from Cal Poly University San Luis Obispo, California. As an entomologist and pest field advisor he spanned many counties in the Salinas and San Joaquin valleys. He then spent the next 30 years working directly with agrichemical distributors and dealers for Dow Agro Science. In 1998 he retired from Dow and began managing the newly formed Creative Chemistries, Inc.
In 2004 Mike and his wife Nan moved to the Bitterroot Valley from their ranch in Terra Bella, California where they farmed oranges and pistachios. They so enjoyed riding horses in the back country, fly fishing, camping and exploring the Sierras. Mike was also active and was President of the Sequoia Back Country Horsemen chapter in California for three terms and in Montana as president of the Selway Pintler chapter for one term. He was an avid horseman, roper and packed many miles in the Sierra Nevada and Rocky mountains.
Mike is survived by his wife, Nan of Corvallis MT; son, Jimmy Jorgensen of Hailey, ID; daughter, Heidi and husband Craig Kaminski of Bellevue, ID, step-son, Dr. Richard and wife Michelle Long Sellman of Missoula, MT; brothers, Denis and wife Sandy Jorgensen of Reno NV and Pete Jorgensen of Reno, NE; and 9 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 20, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Grace Lutheran Church. (275 Hattie Lane in Hamilton). Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton.
