Robert S. House of Darby passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at the Community Medical Center at the age of 81. He was born August 17, 1936 in Canandaigua, New York to Alvin and Alice House.
At the age of 7 his family moved to the West Fork of the Bitterroot Valley where his parents taught school and pioneered new churches in the region including The Wesleyan Church in Conner, MT.
Robert graduated from Darby High School in 1954 and immediately began his career with Del Conner Lumber eventually becoming Sawmill Superintendent. During his time at Del Conner Lumber he became known for efficient operations utilizing modern technology and providing local young people summer work during their college years. In 1996 he then operated a sawmill for FH Stolze Land and Lumber in Sigurd, Utah before retiring in 2002
On November 11, 1955 he married Cora Mae Christopherson of Conner, MT and resided in Darby, MT until his death.
Robert was a pillar in his family and the community of Darby. His contributions included a member of the Darby School Board serving as Chairman, the Conner Church Board, the Victor Church of the Nazarene Church Board serving as chairman, active member of the Darby Ambulance Service for over 30 years. He served on the Marcus Daly Hospital Foundation Board. He contributed to the building and startup of the Northwest Indian Bible School in Alberton, Mt. Robert served on the Forest Service Research Advisory Committee, Bitterroot Credit Union Board and the Darby Clubhouse Board of Directors. He made multiple visits to Haiti and later to Belize and Arizona to assist with Missionary operations.
During his retirement he utilized his Master Electricians License to operated a small electrical company, traveled to see his boys and enjoyed staying connected with the young generation while driving school bus.
Robert was known for living his Christian faith, loving his family, bright smile, flashing brown eyes, gentleness, warmth, wisdom, kindness and enriching the lives of others with respect and non-judgement.
Preceding him in death were his parents Alvin and Alice House, brothers Alvin House Jr. and Paul House
Robert is survived by his wife of 62 years Cora Mae of Darby, daughter Donna Rennaker (Clint Eckhardt) of Darby, Mt, Dan and his wife Geidys of Jackson, New Jersey, Doug his wife Tammy of Atlanta, Georgia, 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, his brother Edwin and wife Jan of Florence, Mt and countless others who adopted him when touched by his life.
Pallbearers are Cory Rennaker, Jeff Rennaker, DJ House, Heidi House, Allen Holt and David Castro. Honorary Pallbearers are Robert Michael House and Axcel Castro.
Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, July 5, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton, Mt.
Memorial and Celebration Service will be held on Friday morning, July 6, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Church of the Nazarene in Victor, Mt. followed by reception at the nearby Neely Center also in Victor. Interment service will take place at the Lone Pine Cemetery in Darby Mt. at 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Bitterroot Valley Church of the Nazarene in memory of Robert S. House. Please designate these donations for the Haiti Hot Lunch Program for children or Bitterroot Valley Nazarene Church.
