Vernon Herbert Vial

Vernon H. Vial was born on August 25, 1927, to DeWitt and Eunice Vial in Hamilton, Montana.  He attended schools there and graduated in 1945.  He served in the U.S. Army for two years and during that time, he married Helen M. Dickinson.  He continued his education at the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science where he graduated in 1949.  After his apprenticeship in Missoula, Montana, he served as a licensed mortician in Butte, Billings, and Bozeman.  In 1969 the family moved to Great Falls, Montana, where he became a corporate officer and manager of the O’Connor Funeral Home, retiring in 1985, at which time he and his wife retired to Mesa Arizona.  Helen preceded him in death in 1987.  He later married Mary A. Wyse, and they made their home in Chandler, Arizona.  He was a member of the Great Falls Presbyterian Church, the Algeria Shrine, Past Master of the Gallatin Masonic Lodge #6 AF&AM at Bozeman, also a Past President of the Bozeman Rotary Club.  He served on the Montana State Board of Morticians for several years, two years as Chairman. 

He is survived by his wife, Mary, four children, Jane (Gary) Meyer of Denver, Douglas (Heather) Vial of Raymond, Washington,  Shirley (Greg) Schermele of Belgrade, Montana, Roger (Lori) Vial of Mesa, step-children Theresa (Mark) Kellogg of Farmington Missouri, Kevin (Sandy) Wyse of Townsend, Montana, and Dr. Tim ( Lynda) Wyse of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and twenty-four beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by a brother David (Doral) Vial of Hamilton, Montana, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers, Virgil, Melvin, and Donald and a stepson Tom Wyse.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 30th at the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 31st at the Daly-Leach Chapel with Niles Nelson officiating.  Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton.
