HAMILTON – Virginia Folz, 101, of Hamilton passed away early Tuesday morning, Feb. 20, 2018 at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital. She was born Virginia Irene Venette Marjorie Tolan on Mar 31, 1916 in Wadena, Saskatchewan, the daughter of Nels Tolan and Blanche Gordon.
In 1920 Virginia & her family came to the U.S. She grew up in both Butte & Great Falls, MT. While in high school, she contracted polio which severely impacted her eyesight. But, after a year of recovery she finished her high school education and entered college. In 1941 she married Joe Folz in Butte, MT. He was a traveling auditor for Consolidated Freightways with a territory from Chicago to San Francisco, so they were on the road “full time”. Their first son, John, was born during this time. By the time their second son, Jim, was born, the traveling had been curtailed due to World War II restrictions. The family moved from Portland, OR, to Butte, MT, and then to Walla Walla, WA. Next was a longer stint in Seattle, followed by Bellingham, WA, and Eugene, OR. In 1984 while they were in Beaverton, OR, Joe was killed in a car accident. Virginia lived almost 50 years in Beaverton before moving back to Montana and Hamilton in 2015.
Virginia was always active in her children’s activities including being a Cub Scout Den Mother, President of the PTA and President of the OSU Mothers Club. She was an avid bridge player, a member of PEO and her many friends were a very important part of her life.
Virginia was preceded in death by her brother Cliff Tolan and her sister Beulah Divel. She is survived by son John Folz and wife Judy of Hamilton, MT and son Jim Folz and wife Sheri of Seattle, WA., six grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
The family suggests any memorials be made to their favorite charity. Condolences may be left for the family at www.dalyleachchapel.com.
