William Cornelius (W. C.) Bolen, 89 of Hamilton died Thursday, June 7, 2018.
He was born July 2, 1928 to Cornelius and Laura Bolen of Chattanooga, TN. W. C. was raised and educated at The McCallie School. In 1950, he graduated from Washington & Lee Univ. with a degree in Commerce. Following service with Chattanooga's own 832d Engineer Aviation Battalion during the Korean War he acquired an Accounting degree from the Univ. of Georgia. He held positions as a Financial Officer with several corporations and moved with his family in 1968 to Hilton Head Island, SC where he opened that locale's first public accounting office. He served on Beaufort County's School Board during the turbulent era of integration and was active in civil rights for all citizens.
W. C. married Virginia Monfort of Atlanta in 1955 and together they had two sons and a daughter. He was active in Episcopal and Anglican churches, serving as a vestryman and Sr. Warden of several parishes. He served as National Treasurer and a Director of the Fellowship of Concerned Churchmen, the founding body of the Continuing Church.
Survivors are his wife Virginia; sons, Robert, Bailey (Carol); daughter, Laura (Scott) Quarles and granddaughter Virginia.
A private military graveside service will be held at a later date at the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery in Missoula.
