Bill McCrum was born and raised in Billings, He started college at Eastern Montana College where he quarterbacked the Yellow Jackets and raced on the Bicycle Team. While in college he worked at the post office (for his dad) in the summer. Bill served in the military in Korea where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.
Bill joined the U.S. Forest Service after college where he spent his career. He was dedicated to preservation and conservation of natural forest resources. Bill was also an advocate of equal and civil rights before it was fashionable.
Considered the patriarch of the McCrum Clan, Bill was the longest living of his generation. He is thought highly of by his nieces and nephews and his many friends in the Bitterroot Valley. He was an avid fisherman, cyclist, cross country skier all part of his love for the outdoors.
He is survived by the family he was proud of, son, Alan (Maria); granddaughters, Alyson Topper and Amanda McCrum; great grandchildren, Luke, Julia, Samuel and Hailey Topper.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 14th at the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton. Private family urn placement will take place at a later date.
