MISSOULA - Amelia “Amy” Tredik, 96, passed away on Friday, September 9, 2022, at Beehive Homes in Missoula, surrounded by the love of her family.
Amy was born in Pittsburgh, PA on October 22, 1925, the daughter of Jacob and Emilia Labash. She was the youngest of eight siblings. After the loss of her mother at age 14, her older siblings were instrumental in raising her. In spite of losing her mother early in her life, Amy excelled in school and graduated early from South High, Pittsburgh, PA, with high honors, in February of 1944. Two weeks later she was accepted and enrolled in Western Pennsylvania School of Nursing through the United States Cadet Nurse Corps. She graduated from nurse’s training in 1946, with the award for the highest scholastic average of her class.
The opportunity to move West came in 1947, at the age of 22, when a friend arranged employment for her at Lott Hospital in Livingston, MT. By herself, she boarded a train, fell in love with Montana, and never looked back! Months later she met her future husband, Joe Tredik, on a blind date at a rodeo in Bozeman. They were engaged on Valentine’s Day in 1949, and married on June 17, 1949. After their marriage, Amy continued working at hospitals in Livingston and Bozeman. While raising four children, the family moved many times and finally settled in Missoula, where Amy also worked intermittently at St. Patrick’s Hospital.
Family was the most important aspect of Amy’s life. She also enjoyed gardening, singing, reading and crossword puzzles. In addition, Amy & Joe, traveled extensively throughout the United States, leaving great memories and photographs as part of their legacy.
Amy is survived by her children, Linda (Doug) Merchant, Jan Tietz, Joseph P. (Nancy) Tredik, and Craig (Diane) Tredik. She was blessed with nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Tredik, all seven of her siblings and her grandson Loren R. Tredik.
