Amy Lee Felix

September 15, 1929 — January 25, 2012

HILLSBORO, OR - Amy Lee Felix passed away on 1-25-12 in Hillsboro, Oregon, at age 82. Amy Lee was born in 1929 in Corvallis, Montana, to Loyd and Amy Rockafellow. She is a third generation Corvallis resident, and lived there for 70 years. She graduated from Corvallis High School. She was beloved mother of Andy and Dalene Stukey of Hillsboro, and proud Grandmother of Kendrick and Kalvin Stukey.

Amy Lee began, at age 16, to work in her parents' restaurant in Corvallis. In 1956, Amy Lee married Everett Charles (Guff) Felix. She and Guff took over operation of the restaurant. They were forced to close the business within a short time, because of Amy Lee's health. She had developed rheumatoid arthritis in her 20's, and was severely crippled for most of her life.

When their children began school, Amy Lee missed the interaction with the public and missed working, so became deeply involved in volunteer work. She volunteered at school, and for various health and disability organizations. She was nationally recognized for her volunteer work. Amy Lee felt a strong commitment to people in need, and to her community. In l981 she began volunteering as a substance abuse counselor at Trapper Creek Job Corps. She later worked there as a contract employee until her retirement in l995.

She was a member of the Victor-Corvallis Naomi Chapter of Eastern Star and the Eagles aux 1693 of Hamilton.

In 2000, Amy Lee moved to Hillsboro, Or, to be with family. She enjoyed being a part of the lives of her grandchildren, and made many loyal friends in Hillsboro. She lived with family for ten years, until she entered Hillsboro Health and Rehab Center. Even in nursing care she continued to be a big part of the lives of her family, and to develop new friendships. Even though she was forced to give up her independence, she did not give up her independent spirit. She met new challenges with courage and humor. She loved to write, and wrote many stories about her experiences, her family history and her community. She continued to write after moving into nursing care, and never did feel that she had finished with all that she had to record. It was important to her to leave her kids and grandkids with information about family history. Her family is grateful for the volumes of information and entertaining stories. She also enjoyed keeping in touch with friends and relatives by email, and kept up with her home town by reading newspapers on line.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Everett Charles Felix, in l998, and her son, Curtis Everett Felix, who died at age 29 in l988. Her love, strength, determination, and sense of humor will be missed by her family and friends in Oregon and Montana.
