Astrid Wetzsteon Morris, 88, of Corvallis, died Dec. 16, 2015, at the Aaron Care Home of natural causes. She was born Nov. 5, 1927, in Missoula, the daughter of the late Fred and Irene Wetzsteon.

She attended grade school at the Sula one-room school. Since her parents' place was up the East Fork of the Bitter Root River, she spent the week living with her grandparents, Jake and Mary Wetzsteon, so she could attend school in Sula. Often she rode her horse from her grandparents' home to the school. On the weekends she went home with her parents. She was homeschooled in 7th grade, attended Darby School in 8th grade, and spent 4 years at Hamilton High School, graduating in 1945.

Every August Astrid would ride her horse out into the hills and pick huckleberries to make a huckleberry pie for her grandfather's birthday. Also in her growing up years she had the privilege of traveling all over the state with her mom and dad as her dad was active in MT Stockgrowers.

After high school she attended the University of Montana majoring in journalism and she worked at various times in her life for the Ravalli Republic and the Western News. When the editor of the Western News Miles Romney headed for the state legislature, she would take his place at the Western News.

She was a past worthy matron of Corvallis #59, O.E.S., a member of Farm Bureau, the Corvallis Grange, and the Legion Auxiliary. Astrid was very involved in the sports activities of her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are her children Lark and David Hanson of Melstone ,MT; Shayne and Patti Morris of Corvallis; Tracy and Marcia Morris of Canyon, TX; Tenley and Jim Whittle of Peach Tree City, GA; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren with one more due in Feb.
