Barbara Josephine Reed, 84, of Hamilton passed away December 13, 2013 at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula, MT. She was born in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey July 20, 1929, the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Barbara Humphries. She graduated from West Side High School in 1947. Barbara, one of eight children, worked for Prudential Insurance Company as a stenographer. She married George Reed December 13, 1947 in Newark, New Jersey.
Barbara and George moved to Logan, Utah where her husband attended college and she attended one year as well. Moving with her husband, a teacher and coach and later an insurance manager, they moved first to Buhl, Idaho then to Oregon, where they lived in Brownsville, Eugene, Central Point, and then Portland in 1968, where they lived until they retired to Hamilton, MT in 1990. During that time, she worked in her husband's office as a secretary, served as a scout leader for the Brownies and in the Portland Lion's Club, and volunteered at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. She was active in her church as a choir member and Sunday School teacher. She loved to travel and was able to visit Europe, Mexico, Canada as well as many parts of the United States. While in Washington, DC, she was honored with being selected to place the wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 66 years, two daughters, Linda Lusky of Beaverton, Oregon and Mary Katherine (Jeff) Swartzentruber of Goshen, Kentucky, 6 grandchildren, two sisters and one brother. She was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, her son Scot Reed, and two grandchildren.
