Betty L. Lien, went to be with her Savior the Lord Jesus Christ on December 7, 2014, at her home, with her loving family surrounding her.
- She was born July 21, 1931, the only child of Henry and Louise Meyer in Aberdeen, WA. She moved to Portland, OR and attended high school at Roosevelt High, graduating in 1949. In high school she was a member of the band playing the flute and marching in many parades including the Rose Bowl Parade in California. During her senior year of high school she attended Hastings Business School which prepared her for employment as a bookkeeper.
- She married her childhood friend, Martin Lien, on October 22, 1949. While her husband was in the service she moved with him using her bookkeeping training to help support the family wherever they went. Eventually, they settled back in Portland where they built a home and had 3 children; Karen Erickson, Norman Lien and Paul Lien. In Oregon, the family enjoyed numerous camping, fishing and huckleberry picking trips. She created beautiful gardens at their home and loved very much their family pets Toby, Fluffy, Cinder, Pepper and Mindy.
- They became involved in the local church and her husband went into the ministry in 1975. The family followed him to the Bitterroot Valley in Montana. While she missed Oregon and the ocean, she fell in love with the beautiful surroundings in Montana.
- She became a vital support for the ministry in Charlos Heights and Sula. She taught Sunday school, Bible school and took part in 4-H, judging the needlework at the county fair for years. She helped with Special Olympics at Lost Trail Ski area. She was very devoted to her husband and family and took care of her mother-in-law until she passed.
- She was never in the forefront, always in the background supporting others. She worked at the Charlos Heights election board for many years. She spent 18 years donating many hours to Hospice including delivering roses to families in grief. She love to send greeting cards to others and always remembered special dates, anniversaries and birthdays. She and her husband were always the first to visit the sick and the needy. She organized meals to be provided for families in need and also established a prayer chain for the church.
- After 31 years in service with her husband they retired and build a new home in Corvallis, Montana. There they became involved in the Corvallis Community Church. She loved flowers of all types and enjoyed gardening, camping and fishing trips with her husband. Although retired, she was still donating her time with Samaritans Purse Shoebox Ministry.
- She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She spent many years bravely and silently dealing with numerous health issues with no complaint. She lived her life by example, she lived her life serving others and putting others first before herself. Her favorite quote which she said daily was "One Day at a Time." This got her though many trying days and is what she leaves us all to remember.
