Betty Hoops Long passed away on May 24, 2013 following her long struggle with breast cancer. She was active until the last week of her life riding her horses and engaging in her numerous business and charitable activities.
Betty was born in Dallas Texas on September 9, 1951. Following high school she attended Dallas Baptist University until she had an opportunity to tour the country as a lead vocalist for the country rock band "West Bound". With the birth of her first son, her touring days came to a close so she packed up her bags and moved to Missoula with her husband in 1976.
She attended the University of Montana and also worked in the controller's office. She utilized her accounting skills acquired at the University to begin a career in real estate development. Over the course of her career she participated in the successful development of numerous commercial, residential and multifamily projects.
Her last position was President of BHL Properties. She also was a director on the board of Summit Management Group Inc., a Missoula multifamily developer.
Most of all, Betty loved riding her horses on her ranch in Stevensville and on the mountain trails nearby. She will be remembered by those who knew her for her genuine kindness and warm smile. At Betty's request there will be no funeral services. Consistent with her love for animals the family requests donations to the Bitterroot Humane Society in lieu of flowers.
