Beulah Irene Shelby, 99, of Hamilton, passed away on December 15, 2008 at Marcus Daly Hospice and Palliative Care Center.
She was born on June 11, 1909, in New Brighton, PA, to Marvin and Clarabelle Sturgeon. She had two brothers, Ronald and Richard. She was educated in Hugo, CO. and attended Greeley Teachers' College where she earned certification to teach, which she did for three years.
Beulah and Carl Shelby married on Christmas Day in 1930 in Colorado Springs, CO. They later relocated to Cut Bank, MT., where Carl worked for Union Oil Company for 30 years. After retirement in 1968, they bought acreage in Hamilton and enjoyed many happy years of gardening, raising sheep, hunting, fishing and the awesome beauty of the Bitterroot Valley.
Beulah's hobbies throughout the years were sewing, gardening, cooking, cake decorating, mint making and her peanut brittle and cinnamon rolls were phenomenal!
She was a devoutly Christian woman and a Presbyterian Church member from an early age. She always enjoyed Bible Study, teaching Sunday School and Choir participation. Beulah was an active member in the Grantsdale Ladies Aid.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Ron and husband Carl.
She is survived by daughter Joan Singer of Corvallis, MT; daughter Marlene (Floyd) Hooley, of Branson, MO; son Jim (Sandra) Shelby, Duvall, WA; grandchildren, Melodee (Doug) Burreson of Missoula; John Singer of Billings; Heidi (Terry) Stiff of Mesa, AZ; Jim (Denise) Lollar of Bixby, OK; John (Jackie) Lollar of Parker, CO; Julie (Ron) Coker of Flowery Branch, GA; Paul (Laura) Shelby of Sammamish, WA; Danny (Colleen) Shelby of Monroe, WA; 19 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, December 18th at the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at the Hamilton First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Janet Malone officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Marcus Daly Memorial Hospice Center, 1200 Westwood Dr., Hamilton, MT 59840.
