Brenda Jo Schmitt passed away on March 22, 2026. She was a loving wife, mom, sister, grandma, and great-grandma. She was truly the heart of our family. Everything Mama did was centered around the people she loved, and she gave that love freely and completely.

Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant everything to her. She loved them fiercely and always saw the best in them. Being around her grandchildren brought her the greatest joy. You could always see Mama light up when they walked into the room. Many of her grandchildren knew her not just as a grandma, but as a mother figure too.

Mama had a big personality and an even bigger laugh. It was loud, contagious, and could fill a room. Usually it would get everyone else laughing right along with her. She spoke her mind, had a great sense of humor, and had a special way of making people feel seen and loved. She also loved giving nicknames. Everyone was either “my baby girl” or “my baby boy.” She always took time to shower and curl her hair, even if we were just sitting around doing nothing. Her laugh, her love, and her little habits like that made her who she was

Mom worked hard her entire life and rarely sat still. She spent many years in the medical field, working in hospitals and doctor’s offices, caring for others the same way she cared for her family. At home, Mama was known for being a great cook and loved making meals and treats, especially for her grandchildren.

Mom was strong-willed, independent, and stubborn in her own way. She lived life on her own terms while always putting others before herself. As she got older, she enjoyed hunting, embracing the time she shared with her family.

Mom shared a long life with her husband, Jim, who she met as a teenager. They would have celebrated 55 years of marriage this coming September. Their story started in a pretty memorable way. Dad started a food fight and hit Mom with a cherry pie, which is a story he always loved to tell.

Mom was deeply loved. She had a special way of connecting with each one of her grandchildren. She was always listening, always encouraging, and always making them feel cherished. The love she gave all of us will carry on for generations, and she will be missed more than words can say.

She is remembered by her husband, Jim Schmitt who will always treasure her as the love of his life; her children, Jarod Schmitt, Malinda Schmitt-Thomas, and Garrett Schmitt who will always cherish her as a supportive mother; her brothers, Steven Williamson and Farren Williamson, who will keep their childhood memories close to their heart; her grandchildren, Randee, Jessie, Cole, Gabe, Drew, Jimmy, Maddison, Savannah, Emma, Hailey, and Owen; and her great-grandchildren, Everix, Levi, Faely, Sowyer, Brynnleigh, Winston, Wesley, Ashton, Olivia, and Cooper who will never forget how special she made them feel.

Mom tended to keep her hardships to herself and would want everyone to know, “I love you. Don’t you worry. Grandma is okay. She’s in a better place, with her mom, dad, family, and baby Olivia.” And as one of her sons said, “You’re free now, Mama.”

We love you, Mom—until we see you again.
