CORVALLIS – Butch LaFreniere passed away peacefully on August 21, 2016 at the age of 72 with his wife Carol and step-son Tyler with him, from advanced Alzheimer’s.
He was born in Plattsburgh, NY on August 11, 1944 to Carl and Ruth LaFreniere. Butch graduated from Harry L. Johnson High School. After graduation he joined the U.S. Air Force where he flew in and out of Vietnam. After the service Butch moved to Vacaville, CA with his new wife, Lynn, and their son, Carl where her family was located.
While in Vacaville he took on various jobs. Butch went to Solano College and earned an AA Degree. He then went to work for the Department of Corrections and worked with Charles Manson and Edward Kemper, amongst others. After divorcing he moved to Bakersfield, CA with wife #2, Gina, where he continued to work for the Department of Corrections. He was very proud of his time with the department.
After divorcing yet again he was married to wife #3 briefly. Well folks, Butch finally got it right and married his “Soul Mate” and the love of his life, Carol, wife #4.
He ended up a long career in the custom built manufactured housing industry with Silvercrest Western Homes as the production manager for 100 to 150 employees. He loved his job and was loved in return. Butch was really one of a kind. He was warm, open, welcoming and quick witted; just fun to be around (and you never had to buy). The lights are a little dimmer without him in it.
Butch was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, the LaFreniere’s and Murray’s; his parents, Carl and Ruth; his son, Carl LaFreniere; his step-son, Todd Allen; and his aunts and uncles, Floyd and Rosemary LaFreniere, Lloyd and Thelma LaFreniere, and his Uncle Buddy and Aunt Gert Murray. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Carol; his step-son, Tyler Allen; grandson, Michael LaFreniere; sister, Sandy; brother-in-law, Larry Cuddeback; and the true love of his life, Aunt Marje LaFreniere, who taught him how to play sports and gave him the name Butch. He also has many nieces and nephews as well as his Godchildren, Alicia, Cassandra, Bryan, Diana and Amber.
Butch touched so many people in his life, to many to name. We will always love you and will always hold you in out hearts. The family would like to thank Mary Price and all her Hospice group for the wonderful and constant care given to him, The Living Centre in Stevensville for their extensive care and Dr. Rosenbaum with the VA, who understood, Kalie Aiken from the Council on Aging for her caregivers group for many years of support.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the Eagles Lodge in Hamilton at 1:00 P.M.
