HAMILTON - Carl S. Rasmussen, 85, of Hamilton passed away Friday, February 18, 2011 at the Marcus Daly Hospice and Palliative Care Center. He was born December 1, 1925 in Long Beach, CA the son of Peter and Elsie (Nielsen) Rasmussen.
Carl was raised and educated in Long Beach. After high school he enlisted into the US Navy on June 16, 1943. Carl served on the USS Birmingham until he was wounded in action in October of 1944 in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. After receiving a Purple Heart, Carl was honorably discharged on November 23, 1945.
Carl married Shirley A. Hedges on January 28, 1953 in Long Beach, CA. He worked for Wonder Bread for many years.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Pete Rasmussen; and 2 sisters, Dorothy Stiner and Esther Kimball. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Rasmussen, of Hamilton; 4 children, Bill Rasmussen of Hamilton, Betsy Matthew of Anaheim, CA, Bob Rasmussen of Laguna Niguel, CA and Diane Walden of Aberdeen, Scotland; 1 sister, Ellen Zaffke of California; 5 granddaughters, 5 grandsons, 2 great-granddaughters and 2 great-grandsons.
The family suggests that memorial be made in Carl's name to the Corvallis United Methodist Church, 356 Cemetery Road, Corvallis, MT 59828 or the Marcus Daly Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 1200 Westwood Dr, Hamilton, MT 59840.
