- Charles D. Centers, 87, a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel and NASA Engineer, died in a drowning accident on Tuesday, May 26, 2009
- A third-generation Bitterroot native, he graduated from Hamilton High School, attended Yale University, and graduated with Tau Beta Phi and Mensa honors in electrical engineering from the University of Oklahoma. As a NASA engineer, he was the program engineer for the first launched Earth Resources Satellite.
- - Charles is survived by his wife, Ruth; and his daughter, Carol Woods.
