HAMILTON - Clarence E. "Duffy" Hafer, Jr, 80, passed into the arms of Jesus just before midnight on February 14, 2010 and is at peace now. He died of pancreatic cancer while in the wonderful, loving care of his family and the hospice staff at the Marcus Daly Hospice Center. Duffy was born to Clarence E. Hafer, Sr and Florence Esther (Schelin) Hafer on July 29, 1929 in Forsyth, Mt.
Duffy enlisted in to the US Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He was an ambitious man with many talents. Over the years he "cowboyed", his first love, worked power plant and highway construction, he was a carpenter foreman, farmed and raised livestock, started an auto repair shop, and in our retirement years in the Bitterroot Valley he built furniture. Duffy also packed elk in the Locksaw with John Buker.
Duffy never knew a stranger and was instantly comfortable with people. Duffy taught his family a lot about love and we will miss him very much but will carry on his legacy of friendship and helping others.
Duffy was preceded in death by his son, Robert Wayne; parents Pappy and Ma Hafer; brother Arch and sister, Maxine. He is survived by his wife Joan of 52 years; son, Scott and wife Colleen; daughter, Susan and friend Noel Tucker; brother, Cal and wife Aggie; brother, Buck and wife Chris and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Joan's family of 5 brothers and 3 sisters and their families.
In lieu of flowers, please take a friend out to lunch, buy someone some groceries or gas, search out a lonely person and call them, not just once, spread the love that Jesus taught us, all around, and Duffy will be honored. And keep it up.
