Daniel Lewis Humphrey

HAMILTON - Daniel Lewis Humphrey, 57, of Hamilton passed away Sunday, November 10, 2013 at his home from a heart attack. He was born November 12, 1955 in Los Angeles, CA the son of Irving Frank and Georgia Lewis (Eaton) Humphrey.

Dan was raised and educated in California and graduated from high school in 1973. He married Martha Dant in July of 1983 and Dan, Martha and Irving ran Humphrey Nursery for 15 years. Dan and Martha later divorced and he married Dawn Hochstrasser on September 22, 2002.

Dan was a patriot and proud son of his father, Irving, who served as a Major in the US Marine Corps during World War II. He was a member of the Ravalli County Search and Rescue and was also a Hot Shot Crew member with the U.S. Forest Service. Dan loved history, philosophy, nature, wolves and Harley's. He also had a love for people, his church, books and poetry.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife, Martha. He is survived by 2 daughters, Lisel of Hamilton and Heidi of Nashville, TN; his grandsons, DaVon, Aaron and Miles all of Nashville; his ex-wife, Dawn Hochstrasser of Hamilton; and his dog and best friend, Baby.

Dan was bigger than life and we will dearly miss him. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made in Dan's name to the Bitterroot Humane Association, 262 Fairgrounds Rd., Hamilton, MT 59840.
