Delia (Dee) Viola Sargent, 78, of Darby, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2009 at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital.
- She was born December 3, 1930, in Jonesburg, Missouri to Joseph and Louise Howell. She moved to Darby in 1947 where she completed her high school education.
- On June 24, 1950, she married LeRoy Sargent in Darby where they made their home.
- She spent several years as a correspondent, writing for the Western News, a local newspaper. She was a founder of the Bitterroot Humane Association where she served as a board member for many years and dedicated her life to the rescue and placement of countless numbers of abused and homeless animals. She was very active as a 4-H leader. She was a member of the Darby Seventh-day Adventist Church.
- Mom loved the outdoors and for many years built and maintained bluebird trails in the Darby area. She especially enjoyed camping, picnics and picking huckleberries with her family. An accomplished self taught seamstress, she made wedding and formal dresses as well as sewing for her family and friends. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, doll making, embroidery and collecting antiques. Mom shared her love of all types of music and poetry with her daughters and grandchildren. Her selfless generosity and caring were genuine as she always placed the needs of her family and friends above her own.
- She was preceded in death by her husband LeRoy, her parents, stepmother Kathryn Howell, two brothers, Raymond Howell and James Howell both of Mattoon, IL, a sister in law, Jean Sargent of Darby and two nephews, Robert Howell and Taff Spannuth.
- She is survived by daughters Kathryn King of Hamilton, Jody (Mike) Deveraux of Darby, Glenda (Mike) Bryne of Corvallis, Wanda (Kirk) Fandry of Helena, seven grandchildren; Christopher Johnson, Rachel and Sarah Deveraux, Joseph and Melissa Byrne, Keith and Benjamin Fandry, and two great grandchildren: Conner Johnson and Greydyn Gildroy. She is also survived by one sister Wanda (Carl) Ferguson of Mattoon, IL, one brother John (Enid) Howell of Salmon, ID, stepbrother Fred (Cora) Hallauer of Salem, OR, brother in law Francis Sargent of Darby, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
- The family is honoring her request that in lieu of memorial services, donations may be made to the Bitterroot Humane Association P.O. Box 57, Hamilton, MT. 59840.
