Denise Gaytko, 56 of Hamilton passed away Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the Marcus Daly Hospice Care Center with her husband, John, at her side. Denise fought a valiant fight with pancreatic cancer for nearly 1 A½ years with John as her loving caregiver.
Denise was born March 26, 1956 in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of Angelo and Louise Berasi. She graduated from Boardman High School and attended Youngstown State University studying criminal law. She worked as a deputy clerk at the Boardman Court House. An avid lover of animals, Denise also worked as a dog groomer for a local vet in Canfield, Ohio.
She married John Gaytko on July 19, 1986. They often visited Denise's brother, Bob, in Salmon, Idaho and fell in love with the mountains and rivers of the west. When John retired they settled in Idaho for a number of years. They enjoyed being an active part of the community involved with a volunteer fire unit and the Salmon River clean up.
Denis is survived by her husband of 26 years, John Gaytko; two brothers, Larry Berasi of Youngstown, OH and Robert (Amy) Berasi and family of Salmon, ID; and her sister, Noreen Musser of Youngstown, OH. She enjoyed the company of her nieces and nephews and was dearly loved by them. A memorial service with John and Denise's families will take place at a later date in Youngstown, Ohio.
A mass celebrating Denise's life will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 3rd at St. Francis of Assisi Parish followed by a gathering with friends and family.
Denise's family wishes to express gratitude to many of the Hamilton residents who provided love and support during Denise's illness.
