Diane M. Melvin

February 13, 1950 — July 3, 2025

Missoula

Diane Marie Melvin, 75, of Missoula, passed away Thursday, July 3rd, 2025, surrounded by her loving family – now residing with Jesus and her loved ones in heaven, looking down with love and support for all.

She was born February 13, 1950, in Whitefish to Edward and Virginia "Ginny" (Olson) Melvin. Eventually moving to Missoula in 1965, Diane attended and graduated from Hellgate High School in 1969.

Diane took great pride in being a devoted caregiver to many as a CNA while working at Valley View Estates nursing home in Hamilton. She showed loving and compassionate dedication to those in need, including giving dignity and support to her father in Hamilton until his passing in 2003 and later caring for her mother in Missoula until her passing in 2008.

Throughout the years, Diane was blessed with a deep and loving supportive family - brothers and sisters who provided a wealth of comfort and encouragement, and her children who she found great happiness in watching embark on their own life’s journeys. She was a kind soul with a strong sense of justice who loved her family and her children. Along with her family, Diane found support and solace in her neighbors and communities of faith while attending St. Francis Xavier in Missoula and St. Francis of Assisi in Hamilton. Diane enjoyed embroidering, going for drives around the Missoula area, seeing wildlife, enjoying movies with family, and dining out.

While Diane often had a quiet and soft-spoken demeanor, her love, kindness, and smile will be remembered fondly by those who were fortunate to know her.

Diane was preceded in death by her father Edward, mother Virginia, sister Mary Anderson, nieces Sharon Leip, and Christa Caira.

Diane is survived by her daughter Melissa Melvin of Troutdale OR, and son David Melvin of Lynden WA; brother Joe Melvin of Missoula; sister Pauline Logan of Missoula; sister Teresa Nichols of Missoula; brother Mike Melvin of Helena; sister Kathy Leip of Leominster MA; sister Rita Caira of New Bedford MA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services and celebration of life will be held at St. Francis Xavier in Missoula on Friday Sept. 12th at 11 am, with a reception following at the church. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton.
