PINESDALE - On September 24, 2011 Dixie Herbert was reunited with her son Lloyd Don, father Lloyd Pead, and step father Ern Turner. She will be missed by her husband Loran Herbert, mother Eva Turner, siblings Kathy Fransen, Valoy Egan, Faye Lee and Farrel Turner, her children Brad, Shalae, Chet, Lex and their spouses whom she loved, her forty-four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, along with many friends.
Grandma was born November 14, 1936 in Star Valley Wyoming to Eva and Lloyd Pead. She was the oldest of five and loved her siblings nearly as much as she did her little farm animals.
After high school she moved to Salt Lake City. It was there that she met Grandpa Herbert. If you haven't guessed, they promptly fell in love and got married. Soon after, they had five slightly attractive looking children. (Not all at once of course.)
She was a very protective and cautious mother. Her children memorized their phone number before anything else, and they never left the house without their dog tags around their necks. In spite of this, she still lost her oldest son in a tragic accident at the age of seven.
Leaving the small precious grave behind, she moved to Montana. It was here that she planted and started the garden that she loved. Even though she was establishing her roots here, she still enjoyed traveling. She was always excited to tell you about where she had been or where she was going. She'd pull out little trinkets, and tell you which far off country she had discovered them in. The way she told it, Portland was just as exciting as Spain.
Grandma's house was a sanctuary. It was a place to hide from the world, from our parents and from our chores. There was never any question as to whether grandma loved us. Even at the end the thing that worried her most was that she wouldn't be able to look after and hold her grandbabies anymore.
Grandma, Thank you for not being in a hurry to leave us, and for all the wonderful memories. You might not be able to hold us anymore, but we will always hold you in our hearts. We love you.
