Dominick "Dom" R. D'Agosta
Dom was received into heaven on February 10th to be once again united with his beloved Janet. He left this world just as he came into it, his way.
Dom was preceded in death by his parents, Salvatore Richard D'Agosta and Julia Victoria D'Agosta; and his beloved Janet, who he lost on February 1, 2005.
He is survived by his sister Judi and her husband Larry Venancio; and two nephews, Anthony and wife Mary Ann and their sons Matthew and Joseph, and Larry Venancio; his dear friend, Pam Folz and honorary grandchildren Maquala, Katye and AJ McGouldrick.
Dom was born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey. He met Janet at the pool where he was life guarding. She turned him down three times before accepting his invitation to go on a date. They married on June 4th 1960 at Our Lady of Sorrows in Jersey City. Little did they know that they would spend the next 47 years together, sharing in the many wonderful adventures a head of them.
He and Janet loved taking their boat out in the ocean and going deep sea fishing or just cruising around. They enjoyed walking the beach and watching storms rolling in. He enjoyed taking pictures of their adventures, places they visited, family and friends.
Dom worked for Local 31 out of Trenton, New Jersey. His first job was an iron worker. He loved walking the iron, and did it for 7 years, he fell twice. The second time he broke his leg and Janet said, "That's it, you're done!" Dom then turned his interest to carpentry and became a Millwright and Steward. He was honest and well respected, putting the needs of the men ahead of everything else. Dom finished out his career there, retiring in 1996 after 30 years. He loved working with his hands, building and creating things.
Dominick had a compassionate heart and that showed when he became an EMT and took diving courses to save lives. He volunteered his time driving ambulance for several years.
Dom served our country until he was honorably discharged following three tours in Vietnam, with the 82nd Airborne Rangers. Dominick and Janet retired to the beautiful Bitterroot Valley in 1996. They both enjoyed a slower pace of life, less stress, and hunting and fishing opportunities a bound.
Dominick loved hunting with his bow, black powder, rifle, shot gun and pistol. He would often "play" ignorant when it came to shooting and weapons, when in reality he was a very precise shot and quite knowledgeable. He hunted big game, varmints, birds with his lab, turkeys, and bears.
Dominick was never short on stories. He would tell them with such detail that you often felt you were right there with him. His stories ranged from swimming pool stories in Jersey with his buddies, to hunting, traveling with Janet, stories about his honorary grandchildren and many, many construction stories.
He looked forward to shooting every Friday with his friends Michael Hartman and Faver Buhler. You could find Dom regularly at BJ's enjoying breakfast, telling stories with his friends, Faver and Tanin Buhler and many others, as well as, enjoying their company. His east coast Jersey accent always added to his stories. You always knew where you stood with Dominick and he never mixed his words and a promise was a promise, no matter what.
Dom was famous for saying, "catch you later." He certainly will be missed as he touched many people's lives both here and New Jersey. Dom, we will all catch you later. Enjoy your beloved Janet.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Francis Catholic Church in Hamilton. Dominick will be laid to rest next to his beloved Janet in New Jersey. Condolences may be left for the family at www.dalyleachchapel.com.
