Dorothy A. House

Dorothy, 84, passed away on April 28, 2011 in the loving presence of her husband Alvin and daughters Carolyn and Esther, at St. Patrick Hospital of a stroke and pneumonia. She was born at home on July 18, 1926 in Milo, IA, the 4th of 11 children, of parents Edna and Arthur Adamson.

She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Pleasantville High School. Dorothy graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho in 1948, with a Bachelor of Arts in English.

After high school she was briefly married to Donald Kitson, before becoming a WWII widow. In 1947, Dorothy married Alvin J. House, a returning WWII veteran. Following college graduation, she taught English at NNC and became a mother of her first daughter. When Alvin graduated college, they moved to Glasgow, MT where she birthed another daughter and son, and served as a pastor's wife. After 2 years, the family moved to Helena, MT where Dorothy worked as a secretary in the State School Lunch Program. After 11 years, they moved to Bozeman, MT, where Dorothy was an administrative assistant at MSU in the Home Econ. Dept. and later, the School of Business, retiring from MSU. Dorothy also assisted with the family businesses, House of Time and Christian Supply Center. Following retirement, Dorothy and Alvin moved to Darby and later Hamilton.

Dorothy loved the Lord, her husband and family, and those God brought into her life. She was an avid reader, Bible study leader, gardener, and daily completed the crossword puzzle in the Newspaper. Dorothy volunteered many years with the Marcus Daly Hospice Program.

She is survived by her husband Alvin J. House of Hamilton; two daughters, Carolyn (Louis) Levinson of Florence, Esther (Michael) Conner of Darby, and son Philip (Judy) House of Billings; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; and 9 surviving siblings.

Pallbearers are Scott Conner, Aaron Conner, David House, Jonathan House, David Brost, and Justin Svec.



The family suggests that memorials be made to the Charlos Heights Community Church or the Marcus Daly Hospice Endowment Fund, Hamilton, MT.
