CORVALLIS - Doug V. Nielsen, 76, of Corvallis went home to his Heavenly Father after a courageous battle with Congestive Heart Failure on Friday, March 25, 2011 at his home in Corvallis surrounded by his family and friends. He was born on February 4, 1935 in American Fork, Utah to Max and Leah Nielsen.
Doug graduated from Richfield High School in 1953. Three years later in 1956 he joined the Navy and served until he was honorably discharged in 1959. Doug then moved to Montana to be with his parents and siblings. There he met the love of his life, Martha H. Luedecke. They were married on November 25, 1959. They had 51 wonderful years together.
Doug worked for many years at numerous sawmills, the last few years as a boiler engineer before becoming disabled in 1975. Doug was a lifetime member of the Good Sam's Club. He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and working in the yard until he could no longer do it because of his health. His biggest joy in life was spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren, who he loved to tease, his 4 California kids who he loved to talk to when ever he could and his two little Indians who could always make him smile and laugh right up to the end.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Leah Nielsen; and his brother, Nile Nielsen. He is survived by his wife, Martha H. Nielsen; son, Todd and Cherlyn Nielsen and their children, Rebekah, Justin, Kent and Cody of Chino, CA; daughter, Cammie and Jim Borden and their children Breanah and Zachary Nielsen of Hamilton; daughter, Ronda and Todd Hansen and their children Bryan and T J of Hamilton; sister, Judy Owings of Hamilton; sister, Jane and Larry Bumgardener of Corvallis; sister-in-law, Anna and Mark Snedeger of Richfield, Utah; and many nieces and nephews and one very special nephew, Bob Selzler, and his constant companion and best friend his dog, Pepper. Doug will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a special man who touched everyone he met.
Honorary Pallbearers are the 8 apples of his eyes, his grandchildren: Rebekah Nielsen, Bryan Hansen, Justin Nielsen, Kent Nielsen, T J Hansen, Cody Nielsen, Breanah Nielsen, and Zachary Nielsen. There will be a private Urn placement at a later date.
