Edith "Penny" Elaine Luther

November 30, 1930 — August 12, 2024

Hamilton

Edith Elaine “Penny” Luther went to be with her Lord and Savior, dying peacefully at home on the ranch she shared with her husband, Ralph, near Hamilton Montana on August 12, 2024, at the age of 93.

She is survived by her children Steve and wife Sara, Karen and husband Steve, Linda and husband Don, her sister Jeane Lippert, nieces Kathi, Judy and her husband, nephew Jeff and his wife. Additionally, she enjoyed the company of her six grandchildren and spouses, eight great grandchildren, and several grandnieces and grandnephews, all of whom loved and were loved by her.

Penny was born and grew up in Southern California, attending school in Montebello, California, finally graduating from the Bible Institute of Los Angeles with a degree in nursing. Penny and Ralph were married in Los Angeles, California on Valentine’s Day in 1953. In 1968, the family moved to a ranch in the Bitterroot valley, Montana, where she lived for the remainder of her life.

Penny worked as a nurse in California and continued for a few years as a county health nurse in Ravalli County and teaching the Lamaze natural childbirth method among her other duties. As an artist, she excelled in pottery for several years at her own studio on the ranch. Penny’s drive for the creative arts included painting, knitting, weaving, glasswork, and jewelry-making. She was a life-long student, constantly learning something new.

Penny’s love for travel took her to places as far away as China, Japan, England, Scotland, Figi, Australia, Egypt and a large portion of the United States. One of her favorite travelling companions was her mother, but she enjoyed the company of the rest of her family as well.

Penny attended Corvallis Community Church, both in person and, in her later years, livestreaming on the church’s website. She was a devout Christian and spread Christ’s love and compassion to all who knew her.

Following her wishes, she will be cremated.  A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 11:00 a.m at the Daly-Leach Chapel with a reception immediately following in the funeral home's community room.  Internment will take place at the Victor Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials may be made in Penny's name to Big Sky Bible Camp (bigskybiblecamp.org).  Remembrances may be left for the family at www.dalyleachchapel.com
