Edna May Caffee

July 7, 1930 — November 16, 2013

HAMILTON - On Saturday, November 16, 2013, Edna May Garrod Caffee, 83, a true native of the Bitterroot was finally able to be with the love of her life "Sonny" again after more than 40 years apart.

Mom was born in Hamilton on July 7, 1930 to Earnest and Margaret "Ruth" Garrod. After graduation from Hamilton High school in 1950, mom joined the U.S. Army where she would meet her future husband Clarence "Sonny" Caffee Jr. with whom she would spend the next 19 years together. Mom was proud of her military service and wished she could have stayed in longer. She was very touched when she saw her and dad's names on the Veteran's monument in Hamilton. After her honorable discharge, mom became an army wife and raised five kids. She followed dad to Germany, Alaska, New Jersey, Virginia, Washington State, Massachusetts, and Texas. Mom told many stories of the adventures of being an army wife. After Dad passed away in 1972, mom returned to Hamilton to raise her kids and start a new life. She was a strong committed; mother who worked very hard to provide for her kids and make sure they never went without. She did the best she knew how, all by herself.

Mom worked various housekeeping jobs, but spent the most time working at Marcus Daly Hospital where she shared many laughs with Cheryl and Marge. She had a sense of humor and liked a good joke. She loved the taste of good beer, and was a fan of Griz and Denver Bronco football. Mom loved the Bitterroot and always said "there was something about this place that always drew her back no matter where she was". She would tell many stories of growing up in the Bitterroot in the 30's and 40's and how sad it was to see soo much change.

Edna is survived by her daughter, Sandra Caffee of Newport News V.A.; sons, Douglas of Dillon, and Russell of Hamilton; and 2 other daughters. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, her brother Richard Garrod, and several nieces and a nephew.

Along with her husband, Mom was preceded in death by her parents Earnest and Ruth Garrod, her sisters June Lykins and Margaret "Polly" Stevens, and grandson Christopher Chandler.

We would like to thank the Valley View Estates Health Care Center for the kindness and care they gave mom and us.
