Edwin E. (Gene) Heller

HAMILTON - Edwin E. Heller (Gene) of Hamilton passed away February 27, 2017 at 4:35 am at Marcus Daly Hospice and is finally reunited with Catherine.

He was born to Henry and Zelda Grace Heller on May 21, 1929 at Maple Ridge, WI, one of 4 children.  Ed was known as Gene in Wisconsin to distinguish him from his Uncle Ed.

Ed worked on his parents’ farm until he joined the Navy during WWII at the age of seventeen.  He served 3 ½ years on the USS Titania in the Pacific islands and Alaska.

He married Catherine H. Manor on September 2, 1950. Ed worked as a mechanic and bus driver while she taught in a rural school. He worked for 15 years at Whirlpool Corporation in St. Paul, MN which was a daily 140 mile round trip. They had five children and made the decision to move to Hamilton after the passing of Ed’s uncle in 1967.

In Hamilton, Ed worked 20 years at Sanderson’s Hardware store before retiring.  In retirement Ed and Catherine enjoyed camping, fishing, and being with their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Both loved to craft, and Ed would make phenomenal pieces out of wood to coordinate with Catherine’s ideas.

Ed is preceded in death by parents, sister Rebecca Frank, sister Naomi Manore,  wife of 59 years Catherine, his son Steve Heller, daughter Nancy Clack, son Mark Heller, daughter Debbie Heller, grandson Ryan Heller, and grandson Eric Clack of Orofino, ID.

He is survived by his brother Marvin Heller of St. Paul, MN, his son Mike (Mary Rose) Heller of Hamilton, his daughter-in-law Amy Heller of Stevensville, son-in-law Steve Clack of Orofino, ID, his grandchildren Michelle (Chris) Currier and Matt S. (Krista) Heller  of Kalispell, Brandon (Stephanie) Peterson of Austin, TX, Jennifer (Rob) Scully of Hayden, ID, Sara (Kyle) Krueger of Stevensville, Rebecca Heller of Spokane, WA and Matt J. Heller of Hamilton, as well as, a legacy of 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous special friends.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Catholic Church on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 11 a.m. with a reception immediately following in the Parish Life Center.  Graveside services with Military Honors will be held on Friday at 1:30 pm at Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton.  Friends and family are all invited to Mike’s Home (441 Grouse Court in Hamilton) following the graveside services.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.dalyleachchapel.com.
