Eugene M. "Gene" Duncan

HAMILTON - Eugene M. "Gene" Duncan, 92, of Hamilton passed away Sunday, September 26, 2010 at the Marcus Daly Hospice and Palliative Care Center. He was born January 7, 1918 in Missoula, MT the son of W.J. and Mary B. (Wilson) Duncan.

Gene attended the University of Montana where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He received his Masters Degree in Forestry in 1940. While at the university, Gene worked summers as a fire lookout in the Lolo National Forest.

Gene married Helen Marie Sprinkle on March 31, 1957 in Livingston, MT. During his career Gene had many different professions and interests including working for the Census Bureau in Washington, DC, the Border Patrol in Texas, the State of Montana in highway construction in Bozeman, MT and was also in the office in Butte, MT specializing in highway design, the US Forest Service in the Siskiyou Forest out of Grants Pass, OR, the Region 6 Supervisor's Office and for the Cochise County Road Department in Arizona.

Gene owned his own farms and raised turkeys in Townsend, MT and broiler chickens in Billings, MT. He also wrote for outdoor magazines such as Field and Stream and Outdoor Life. Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Gene is survived by his wife, Helen, of Hamilton; his son, John L. Duncan and wife Terri of Hamilton and their three children, Brian and his daughter, Amelia, of Missoula, Lisa Giustino and her daughter, Abigail, of Missoula and Torey Duncan of Maui, HI; his daughter, Nancy Martin and husband John of Benson, AZ; his son, Pat Duncan and wife Kathy of Dallas, OR; his son, Tom Duncan and wife Patti of Fort Worth, TX; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
