Eva Marie Mortensen

February 25, 1913 — November 9, 2012

HAMILTON - Eva Marie Mortensen, 99, of Hamilton passed away Friday, November 9, 2012 at her home of natural causes. It was 99 years ago, that Eva Nelson Mortensen's mother went into labor climbing out of a sled on a homestead near Medicine Lake, Montana. Little Eva was born in a snow bank. It would set the stage for a resilient girl who grew up on the prairies of Eastern Montana. She could do any kind of farm or ranch work. She could ride horses as well as any homestead cowboy. Eva was tough. But she was also tender.
Eva married Ernest Mortensen in Las Vegas, NV in 1936 on their way to Montana. Most of her life was spent taking care of people, from a severely burned neighbor lady, to patients in a California psychiatric hospital. Eva was a Registered Psychiatric Technician and worked at the Camarillo State Hospital in Camarillo, CA for 25 years. When she retired she loved crafting and making exquisite eggs. Eva won many awards for her Brazilian embroidery pieces.
She returned to Montana in 1997 and has made Hamilton her home. Now she has gone to Heaven to live in the home Jesus has prepared for her.
Eva was a member of the Emblem Club, the Senior Citizens Club, the Brazilian Embroidery Club and the Egg Art Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, in 1993; her parents, 3 sisters and 1 brother. Eva is survived by her son, Darryl Mortensen and wife Donna Jean of Alpine, CA; her daughter, Beverly Plummer and husband Edward of Hamilton; grandchildren, Timothy Plummer of Laguna Hills, CA, Christopher Plummer and wife Cerise of Capistrano Beach, CA, Eva Marie Bauer (Eva's namesake) and husband Mike of Santa Ana, CA and Vernon Mortensen and wife Kelly of Descanso, CA; and her great-grandchildren, Kirk, Erin, Brian, Brooke and Jade Plummer, Conrad and Cassandra Bauer and Maximillian Mortensen.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Eva's name to Sapphire Lutheran Homes " Assisted Living or to Aspen Hospice.
