Evelyn Urquhart
Evelyn Urquhart (97) Passed away on April 20, 2015 from a ruptured aortic aneurysm. She was born in Evanston, WY on May 23, 1917, the third of four children to Thad and Ethyl Walton. Evelyn's early life was spent on a ranch in Wyoming and northern Utah and she later grew up in Salt Lake City.
In 1937, she married Robert Dean Urquhart and together raised their children, Barbara June (Harry) of Hamilton, MT and Tom Urquhart (Patty) of Clarkston, WA. Over the years, the family lived in Utah, California, Colorado, Illinois, Delaware, Arizona and Montana as they escalated to a better life. In her last few decades, Evelyn spent summers on her Montana Ranch and winters in her home in Arizona.
Evelyn was a stalwart woman with passionate love for her family where she served as mentor, advocate, confidant and role model. By example, she showed her family how to be brave, to not complain, to be gentle, be generous and to love. She would always be there to support each family member. She was a beautiful and gracious lady in and old-fashion way and loaded with class. She had a natural love for life and all living creatures and said things like: "I have never seen an ugly tree". She loved to play bridge and played well; she did so until only recently when she believed her impaired vision caused hardship for her playing companions. She read (listened) to several books each week and was interested in a diversity of subjects from fiction to Russian history. Her mind was sharp to the very end.
She was an artist who sculpted in stone, clay, bronze and wood. She was a silversmith, a stained glass artist, pilot, seamstress, chef, and held every station between wife and great-grandmother. Her sense of humor, wisdom and loving encouragement will be missed by all of those who knew and loved her. We will all need to find another way to listen to her loving words.
Evelyn was the sole survivor of her family generation and was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert of 73 years and grandson Robert Daniel Maxey. She is survived by her children Barbara and Tom and grandchildren Randy (Lorena) Maxey, Kathryn (Graham) Maxey Ray, Mike Maxey, Sean (Kathy) Urquhart and Marci Urquhart Hines and her great grandchildren, Brenden Maxey, Mathilda Maxey, Hugo and Veronica Ray, Madeline, Tyson and Chase Urquhart, and Thad and Ryan Hines. She is also survived by step grandchildren Stacey (Matt) Richie, Brian (Molly) Valliant, and Angi Valliant and their children Trevor and Wyatt Richie, Keane, Maren and Alby Valliant, and Hailey and Daniel Jenkins.
There will be a remembrance celebration of Evelyn in Hamilton Montana on July 11, at 11 am at Daly-Leach Memorial Chapel.
