Francis I. Hughes

January 13, 1930 — December 6, 2012

Frances I. Hughes, 82, of Hamilton passed away Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Discovery Care Centre. She was born in Havre, Montana, the daughter of Frank and Grace Eve.

Fran was raised on a wheat farm outside of Big Sandy, Montana and married Robert Littlefield, a Navy veteran, on June 28, 1947. They were both elementary school teachers until Fran retired to become a homemaker in 1970. During the first two decades of their marriage, they packed up their household with all their children and moved twice a year. They would work during the school year and then move to a college town in Montana to work towards their bachelor degrees. They would then move to a new teaching job. During these years they had eight children, four sons and four daughters. They both graduated with their degrees in 1969 and settled in Darby, Montana. After two years there, they moved to Hamilton, Montana. Robert eventually moved to Rupert, Idaho.

Fran remarried, in 1980, to Bill Hughes. She embarked on a new career as a cafe owner. She cooked and managed Fran's Cafe on Main Street in Hamilton from 1982-89. She was forced to sell the business as her health deteriorated due to Parkinson's disease. She eventually had to move to Discovery Care in order to get the care she needed in the latter years of her life.

Fran is survived by four sons, two daughters, thirty-one grandchildren and thirty-eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She will be remembered by her children as a loving mother who worked hard and sacrificed in order to provide a better life for her family. She loved the outdoors, horseback riding, cats, and dogs. She was a religious woman who loved God. We know that she has claimed the promise of eternal life for those who follow the Lord Jesus Christ in faith and now is in His arms.
