Francis "Sarge" Sargent
Sarge was born in 1917 at home in Darby. He graduated from Darby High School. He married his high school sweetheart Jean and made the only move of his life to the house next door, where he resided until two weeks before his death.
- He and best friend Merle started Sargent and Mckinney Logging. Throughout the logging boom years they employed hundreds of people with good paying jobs, several of which worked for them from beginning to end. During that time they also owned and operated the Curlew Mine.
- Sarge was a life member of the Elks and the Masons. He enjoyed many hobbies over the years, mining, trap shooting, golf and his lifelong favorite fishing.
- He and his friend and fishing partner Phil Bergren spent countless hours at his beloved cabin on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River. Getting there became a challenge in the later years but with some help and his determination he was still able to enjoy the place he loved most.
- He was preceded in death by his parents, Esther and Elmer; brother, LeRoy; wife, Jean and grandson Taff Spannuth.
- He is survived by his only child Janet Spannuth of Hamilton and his best friend his dog Nikke.
- The family suggests memorials to the Darby Food Bank.
