Gail Victoria (Cunnington) Wood, 79 of Hamilton, passed away on Sunday the 23rd of March, the very day of her wedding anniversary, at Marcus Daly Hospice Care Center.
She was born in Idaho Falls Idaho on Feb. 10, 1935 to Manual and Rose Cunnington. In 1959, her family moved to the Bitterroot and Gail was still in Idaho Falls. Her brother Rod introduced her to a dapper young man named Gordon Wood while visiting for Thanksgiving. After one visit to Hamilton, Gordon told Gail, "give notice to your work, I'm moving you to Montana and we're getting married!"
They raised 3 children in Hamilton and while doing so she started to take an interest in knitting and eventually crochet. She learned to make absolutely beautiful lace doily's, table cloths, crocheted doll cloths, and bedspreads. Gail loved to spoil her grandkids and in doing so also loved to collect dolls, and spent hours making outfits for each and every one. Her skills were so amazing that she won best of show at the Fair for several years.
She belonged to Beta Sigma Phi sorority in Ravalli County for many years, and met many lifelong friends. She participated in bowling, and could always be found running around after one grandkid or the other on any given day through their childhood. She would never miss one of her grandkids sporting events, and was quite competitive. She lived for her family and would always do anything she could for them.
After the death of her husband, she volunteered many hours of her time helping at the rest home, and belonged to the knitting, and Art guild. In later years she worked at the Yarn Center, and was always excited to help others to learn to knit and crochet.
She is survived by her sister Geraldine (Dee) and husband Bill Perkins of Eugene Ore; daughter, Theresa and husband Ross Fackler; sons, Tracy Wood, Robert and wife Valory Wood of Hamilton; 4 Grandchildren, Vanessa Wood, Rachell and husband Dennis Jessop, Dillon Wood, and Stephen Musial; 1 Great grandson, Gannon Jessop.
Gail wished not to have a memorial service; her ashes will be placed with her husband's. The family suggest memorials in Gail's name be sent to the Bitterroot Art Guild.
