George Walter Hoyle

April 3, 1937 — February 2, 2022

HAMILTON - George W. Hoyle, age 84, after a short illness, passed away in Hamilton, Montana on February 2, 2022. George was born April 3, 1937, in Hickory, North Carolina, the only child of Robert Norris Hoyle and Grace Louvenia Anglin. He was preceded in death by his much loved and adored wife Bobbie, who died in 2017.

When he wasn't going to school, George spent much of his childhood working on the family farm near Newton, North Carolina. He attended North Carolina State University, earning his PhD in electrical engineering. After graduation he became a partner in a company designing electronic process control equipment and later worked for a major corporation designing equipment for early space exploration. Eventually, he returned to the academic world as Professor of Engineering at Montana Technology University in Butte Montana, later transferring to Northern Arizona University (NAU) in Flagstaff Arizona in the same capacity.

He married and became the father of 3 children, Dayna Charlie, and Tay. He and his wife divorced, and years later he married Roberta (Bobbie) Alderman. He absolutely loved Bobbie and they spent many happy years together. After his retirement from NAU, they moved to Corvallis, Montana where he realized his retirement dream, building his own metal fabrication shop named B & G Works. His work was always done with perfection, and he was known for keeping his equipment in tiptop shape. George and Bobbie loved animals and owned two Newfoundland dogs, Cora and Sadie, who gave them many years of love and companionship. George had a strong work ethic and always kept his home and surroundings in immaculate shape.

George was an exceedingly kind man who loved telling a good joke, as well as pulling pranks on some of his friends. He was highly intelligent and was eager to prove the power of math and science to anyone who would listen. He loved the wilderness and spent much of his spare time backpacking. The New Mexico Gila Wilderness and Montana Pintler Wilderness were a few of his favorite places. He was a member of the Corvallis United Methodist church and taught Sunday School for many years.

He is survived by his children and stepdaughter, Toni Meneley, Denver, Colorado.
