- Dad joined the CCC in 1936, then enlisted in the Army in 1939. During World War II, Dad served in Iceland, England, and France. After the war, he served in the Air Force for 20 years. He retired as a Master Sargent in 1967, and retired to Hamilton.
Dad married the love of his life, Margaret Ann Mahoney, in Indianapolis, IN, on April 14, 1951. They spent the next 59 years learning, laughing, and building their lives together.
Dad is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Hamilton; daughter Michelle (Steve) Robinson, of Mesa, AZ; and son Tim Marchant, of St. Ignatius, MT. Dad has three grandchildren, David (Charity) Robinson of Gilbert, AZ; Sarah (John) Snyder of Mesa, AZ; and Kristin McClure of Butte, MT.
Upon retirement from the Air Force, Dad worked for the Darby Ranger Station for 3 years and the Hamilton Post Office for 11 years. His interests included being a recreational pilot, giving medical patients rides to treatment in Missoula, and organizing reunions of his fellow WWII servicemen. He used his computer to help people find friends and family members. He was an accomplished whittler, an avid reader, and an amateur photographer.
The family would like to thank all who helped Dad. Especially, the nurses at Marcus Daly, the waitresses at the Victorian Casino, and all the ladies at Super 1 who kept him convinced to the end that he was the cutest guy in the Bitterroot.
