HAMILTON - Gerald "Bill" Maller, 78, of Hamilton passed away Thursday, May 12, 2011 at his home from brain cancer. He was born June 4, 1932 on the ranch in Burlington, WY to Elva and Gladys Maller.
Bill grew up on the ranch and enjoyed learning the life that rural living afforded. He was a good horseman. Bill raced, trained and even broke wild horses. He enjoyed sports and was one of the star players on the high school basketball team in Basin, WY, where he graduated in 1950. Bill loved Grizzly football and never missed a game.
After high school, Bill was drafted into the US Army and served during the Korean War. After his discharge he left the ranch and moved to Great Falls and started his training as a Union Glazier, which he worked at for 40 years in Missoula and Oregon. Bill could fix about anything and enjoyed the challenge. He also enjoyed being outside working in his yard and garden. His yard rarely had a weed.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Glen and Guy. He is survived by his wife, Luella, whom he married on June 4, 1995; his sister, Margie Pepper of Cheyenne, WY; his sons, Mark and wife Colleen of Terryville, CT and Shawn of Redondo Beach, CA; 2 grandchildren, Liam and Kayla of Terryville, CT; step-children, Pat Ricci of Missoula, Dave Ricci of Lolo, Mike Ricci of Fairbanks, and Mary Zeiler of Florence; and numerous nieces and nephews.
You were a good husband, father, brother, friend and neighbor. We will miss the familiar places of your life.
