December 23, 1931 — November 24, 2010

Gladys Maxine Johnson, 79, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the Granite Creek Hot Springs west of Lolo, MT.

Gladys was born in Charlo, MT on December 23, 1931 and moved to Missoula with her family at the age of five. She completed her high school education at Upper Columbia Academy in Spangle, WA and then attended Walla Walla College for 2 years where she met her future husband Melvin. She subsequently married and became an accomplished and respected Research Associate in Child Development and Human Relations.

After completion of Melvin's undergraduate education at Walla Walla and Dental School in Loma Linda, CA, they moved to Hamilton in 1961 where she has resided until her death.

It is her lifelong passion for, and curiosity of, all things outdoors that has imbued her family with an adventurous spirit and open mind. For over six decades, her resilience, her quiet strength, and her undying love have been, and remain, the foundation of her family.

She has been a long time member of the Hamilton Seventh-day Adventist Church, was a Hospice volunteer and served on the Board of Directors of Mission Projects Incorporated. The hallmark of her life has been her dedication and loyalty to her family and her willingness to be of community service in every capacity.

Gladys is survived by her husband, Dr. Melvin Johnson of Hamilton; daughter Kathleen and husband Dr. Mark Griffin of Troy, Alabama; son Dr. Randall Johnson and wife Mary of Bozeman; daughter Deanna and husband Archie Harris of Bozeman; three granddaughters, two grandsons, three sisters, and two brothers.
