Gordon was born on March 26, 1933 in Velva, ND. He grew up and lived in Velva until he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He boot camped in Camp Pendleton, CA, then deployed to Korea as a tank mechanic. Upon returning to the states he married Dorothy Stacy and they relocated to southern California until Gordon was honorably discharged from the Marines. Gordon was accepted into the electrician's apprenticeship program and proudly joined Local 551 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union, Santa Rosa, CA in 1957. He was a lifelong union member, traveling the country working through local unions on power plants, paper mills and other large industrial projects.
Gordon met Winnie while they were both working on "The Alaskan Pipeline" in Valdez, Alaska. They married in 1978 and settled in Hamilton, MT on Gordon's dream of a log home on a ranch in the Bitterroot Valley. Many of Gordon's and Winnie's family enjoyed reunions and vacations on the place, the door was always open, a meal was always cooked and room was always made. This Memorial Day weekend the house was full of kids, grandkids and great grandkids as many gathered to spend the last few moments with Gordon before he passed. It was a celebration in keeping with the many family holidays the home experienced under both Gordon and Winnie's hospitality umbrella.
Should you want to memorialize Gordon, in lieu of flowers the daughters request a donation to Marine Corps League-Bitterroot Valley Detachment ( PO Box 658, Hamilton, MT 59840). Semper Fi dad.
