Gwen Call Mortensen, Grandma Gwen to most everyone who ever met her, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2015, at her home in Hamilton. She was born March 20, 1915 in Dayton Idaho to James and Mary (Phillips) Call. Her twin brother Glen was born a few minutes before her. She was just a few weeks shy of her 100th birthday and was happily preparing to celebrate it with friends and family.
Grandma was raised and educated in Dayton, ID and on December 4, 1934, she married the love of her life, Orson A. Mortensen. They lived in Idaho where 6 of their 9 children were born and then fell in love with the Bitterroot Valley, and moved here in 1950. They finished raising all 9 of their children here, usually while working a number of jobs, farming, gardening and still taking the time to enjoy the great outdoors and her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Orson, daughters and son-in-laws: JoAnn and Dick Garrod, Brookie and Keith Jones, daughter Margaret Sue Mortensen along with her parents, seven brothers, one sister, two grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters.
Surviving Gwen are her children, Jack (Lottie) Mortensen, Wayne (Audrey) Mortensen, Carma (Bob) VanderPas, Paul (Amy) Mortensen, Marsha (Jim) Waliser, Anita (Tim) Driscoll. Her legacy lives on with 112 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 12-1 on Wednesday, Feb 11, 2015 at Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton with a graveside service at Corvallis Cemetery at 2:00 pm Wednesday. A reception will follow at Daly-Leach Community Room after the service.
There will be a Celebration of her life on March 21, 2015 at the Bedford Building in Hamilton from 12-3.
