Gypsy Jean Pfeifer

August 31, 1934 — December 22, 2012

HAMILTON - Gypsy Jean Sparks Pfeifer, 78, of Hamilton passed away Saturday, December 22, 2012 due to complications of stomach cancer. She was born August 21, 1934 in Madill, Oklahoma. She lived in many different places before graduating from Sante Fe High School in 1952.

In August of 1952, she met Elsworth "Bob" Romaine Pfeifer and ten days later they married. Their first home was in Yellowstone National Park where Bob worked as a winter keeper. Shortly after the birth of their first child, Jean and Bob settled in Hamilton and began building their home and lives together, and raised three children, Diana, Craig, and Karen.

Jean had many interests, including sewing, knitting, and canning. She was of sharp mind and wit and won her fortune many times over on "Wheel of Fortune." Her love of country made her the commensurate patriot and loved all things red, white, and blue. She was a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and maintained her membership in the 8 and 40 Society (The Shop of Eight Hats and Forty Women), an organization of women who have distinguished themselves in the American Legion Auxiliary.

She loved her family, the company of good friends, and had more than a fondness for all things "Elvis." She was employed as a bookkeeper for the Peavey Company, the Green Lantern, and the Teller Refuge. More recently, she opened her own bookkeeping and tax service and maintained an office at her home.

Jean is preceded in death by her son, Craig and survived by her husband, Elsworth, daughters, Diana Jones (Steve) of Littleton, CO, Karen Schultz, (Patrick) of Tulsa, OK, and grandson, Jason DeCorte of Denver, CO.

Pall bearers are Steve Jones, Patrick Schultz, Jason DeCorte, Larry Pfyffer, Del Reynolds, and Phil Herod. The family suggests that memorials be made to the National Brain Tumor Society: http://www.braintumor.org/.
